Let's Be A Team

Parents, Grandparents or any caregiver to children...this is for you.  One of my biggest struggles as children’s minister is always questioning: “Is what I’m teaching is enough? Is what Im teaching connecting to the kiddos?  Is what I’m teaching really sinking in?”  I mean, c’mon, I’ve only got these kiddos for an hour a week!  And if they’re not there every week, that time is even less. :(

One of the things I like about our curriculum is it takes the Bible story and follows it up and applies to THEM and in their lives right NOW.  It does a great job of showing the kiddos how relevant the Bible is to them TODAY.

So, let me move on to my point I’m wanting to get to...

The church is not the only teaching source for your children.  Sundays are not the only time they should be exposed to what God has in store for them.  What I’d like to do is support you!  I’ll make a deal with you...I’ll help supply places in the Bible to read and activities you can do at home if you will encourage and provide time at home for you and your children to be in the Bible.  Let’s work as a TEAM!  I guarantee, parents, you’ll end up being convicted too!  You will find you learn from their lessons just as much :)  Those are always my favorites lessons to teach - the ones, when I’m preparing, I feel God is actually teaching ME instead!

So here’s what you can expect from this blog on a weekly basis:
  • The week’s theme
  • The Bible verse
  • Passage in the Bible from where the story was taken
  • Activity ideas
  • The Challenge for the week that I give the kiddos
Do you have a children’s Bible at home?  We have a christian bookstore right here in Marion, Hope Crossing, as well as your other stores and/or online resources.  Find a Bible that is kid friendly.  Bibles are so cool nowadays.  They have easy reading plans and lots of “extras.”  I have some here at the church you can purchase as well.  My favorite version for kids is the NIrV (New International Reader’s Version) but I also like New Living Translation as well.  You want to find a version they can not only read but UNDERSTAND as well.

Make reading the Bible a scheduled thing.  A daily thing.  How bout 10-20 minutes before bed?  You guys can read together and then end with prayer time.  Find things that work for your kiddos and your family.

For at least a month now Kylar faithfully reads her Bible every night. We now pick our her favoriate Bible stories, currently she is reading about Joseph...from beginning to end.
Suggestions in your blog are certainly welcome since I am not sure who her next Bible hero may be....she doesn't either!!
